Now on it's 19th year of highly fulfilling service to the community, the Rotary Club of Parañaque South (RCPS) faces yet a new challenge for the current Rotary Year 2008-2009: to live to the Rotary organization's expectations to perform even better because it is the home club of the incumbent District 3830 Governor, Edgardo "Boyet" Limon. In fact, DG Boyet is the club's second governor. The first was PDG Jocelyn "Joc-Joc" Bolante who served in RY 1997-1998. But with President Eddie "Ed" Castillo at the helm, RCPS will, no doubt, complete the current term with yet more shining achievements.
The Rotary Club Parañaque South was first conceptualized in Nagoya, Japan on April 20, 1989 by PDG Oskie de Venecia, PDG Tony Rufino with Ponciano “Pon” Marquez and son, PP Eric of RC Bagumbayan. It was endorsed in May 1989 by then IPDG Herman Gamboa who appointed PP Rolly Suarez as the district governor’s special representative to form the new club, which was, in turn, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Parañaque, under President Vic da la Dingco.
Organizational meetings were initially held every Friday at Patio Engracia in Sucat Road, which later moved to Thursdays at Keoyu Japanese Restaurant in Aguirre St. in BF Homes Parañaque. RCPS was finally chartered as a member of Rotary International (RI) on February 21, 1990 under District 3810 and was formally presented its Charter Certificate on June 7, 1990 at the Fiesta Pavilion of Manila Hotel.
Its constitution and bylaws were signed by Roberto “Bobby” G. Acedera, Mario “Marty” R. Alvarado, Rene “Rene” F. Aguirre, Rolando “Ronnie” P. Arbis, Jocelyn “Joc-Joc” I. Bolante, Lorenzo “Bobby” M. Cinco, Roman “Romy” Cruz, Rafael “Raffy” E. del Pilar, Raul “Raul” V. dela Cruz, Antonio “Tony” C. Dimaquila, Danilo “Danny” E. Enriquez, Levine “Levine” A. Frial, Jr., Dexter “Dex” G. Heuschkel, Edmundo “Ed” I. Imperial, Leonides “Leo” K. Katigbak, Arturo “Art” S. Lazatin, Oscar “Ocs” P. Luna, Manuel “Manny” D. Maranan, Cielito “Ciel” Ortiz, Florentino “Long” V. Pascual, Candelario “Pat” D. Patino, Enrique “Henry” C. Payawal, Jose “Pepe” D. Ponce, Epifanio “Junny” N. Santillan, Jr., Francisco “Francis” E. Suatengco, Armando “Mandy” C. Trinidad and Ritchelio “Ritchie” Ylaya.
In its first year of inception, RCPS was awarded as the Most Outstanding Club and its Charter President, Joc-Joc Bolante, as the Most Outstanding Club President of D-3810, among other major citations.
RCPS hosted its first major district event, the District Assembly (DISTAS) for Rotary Year 1992-1993, at the Shangri-La Makati on May 14-15, 1993 under the leadership of Pres. Marty Alvarado, with over 800 club and district officers in attendance.
In RY 1997-1998, RCPS produced its first district governor, seven years after its chartering, when CP Joc-Joc Bolante assumed the governorship of District 3810.
On March 19-21, 1998, under the term of Pres. Rene Aguirre, RCPS hosted the District Conference (DISCON) of D-3810 at the Philippine Convention Center, the Chairman of which was PP Ed “Boyet” Limon. It was acclaimed as the biggest ever held in the history of Philippine Rotary with more than 2,200 participants, not to mention the dazzling sights and sounds that awed the crowd. In the same Rotary year, the club was accorded the International Service Award by RI President Glenn Kinross for its “Livelihood Project for the Blind” and PP Dex Heuschkel was recognized with a “Service Above Self” award from RI.
During RY 1998-1999, the club inaugurated the Rotary Community Center located at Francisco Cruz St., Phase 3, BF Homes Parañaque with then Pres. Boyet Limon.
On February 25-27, 2000, RCPS organized and played host to the first President-Elect Training Seminar (PETS) under the new District 3830 held at Canyon Woods, Tagaytay City under the chairmanship of PP Bobby Cinco, during the term of Pres. Ron Chavez. In the same year, RI President Frank Devlyn personally awarded RCPS’ RCC – MANSCO as one to the Two Most Outstanding Rotary Community Corps in the Philippines.
In RY 2003-2004, during the term of Pres. Alex Yague, PDG & CP Joc-Joc Bolante was elected as Director to the RI Board to serve for a two-year term during RYs 2004-2005 and 2005-2006.
For the second time, RCPS Played host to PETS on March 2004 at Oasis Hotel In Angeles City, Pampanga with PP Boyet Limon as the chairman, during the term of Pres. Joey Montes.
In RY 2004-2005, PP Boyet Limon was elected as Chairman of the Circle of Equals (COE) and was also designated as the chairman of the D-3830 Centennial Projects. It was the term of Pres. Paul Teves and was also when the RCPS Multi-Purpose Community Center in Barangay Calayo, Nasugbu, Batangas, was awarded as one of the Top Ten Outstanding Centennial Projects of D3830. On Feb. 21, 2005, RCPS’ 15th anniversary, it was notable that many of the club’s charter members who signed its constitution and bylaws were still very much active. They include RID/PDG/CP Joc-Joc Bolante, PP marty Alvarado, PP Bobby Cinco, PP Rene Aguirre, PP Ciel Ortiz, PP Ronnie Arbis and Dir. Dan Enriquez.
PP Alex Yague was elected chairman of the Circle of Equals for RY 2005-2006, under the term of Pres. Ronnie Arbis. On January 5, 2006, PP Boyet Limon was elected as District Governor Nominee to serve during RY 2008-2009. RCPS, once again, hosted the PETS 2008 on March 28-30 at Oasis Hotel in Angeles, Pampanga with PP marty Alvarado as chairman, under tha watch of Pres. Mart Mañalac.
Indeed, RCPS has a very colorful history. With numerous District and Rotary International awards and recognitions, it has earned for itself a reputation as a club that is passionately committed to the true essence of Rotary's motto of "service above self." |
